Day 19: January 19, 2013
Celebrate other people’s successes
Often when we watch a sporting event, we cheer and jeer - whether it’s at the television or at the arena. We celebrate the athlete’s win and sympathize with his or her loss. It’s a way to bring together a community, just as birthday celebrations bring together a family.
Today I went to Skate Canada with my sisters. We’ve always wanted to go, as we watch figure skating every year on tv. Every year, we’ve celebrated the success of our favourite figure skaters: Jeffrey Buttle, Joannie Rochette, and Shawn Sawyer. This year I was able to celebrate Patrick Chan’s gold medal in person! We give athletes the support of a community when we celebrate their successes.
